7-year-old Kaelyn suffers from Mastocytosis, a rare disorder that causes her to react extremely to minute changes in her body, such as fatigue or stress.
These reactions are often violent, and the young girl from North Carolina needs someone watching her at all times.
That someone is JJ, a service dog who has learned not only to alert her parents or teachers when she has a reaction, but also how to detect these chemical changes in Kaelyn’s body before the reactions become severe.
According to Yahoo! News, the tiny terrier was trained using swabs that Kaleyn’s parents collected during her reactions.
The remarkable dog has been Kaelyn’s shadow for two years now. JJ goes with her to school, to bed and even to the hospital, where anesthesiologists told Yahoo! News that JJ’s nose is a more effective protector of Kaelyn than any medical device.
